Short answer: yes. Adderall is made of amphetamine salts, so it shows up on the amphetamine (AMP) panel of standard drug tests. Almost every multi-panel cup includes AMP.
How Adderall shows up
- Adderall and Vyvanse are amphetamine-based and will typically screen positive on the AMP panel.
- Ritalin and Concerta (methylphenidate) are chemically different and usually do not trigger an AMP result.
- Methamphetamine has its own MET panel. Adderall does not usually cause a MET positive.
How long is Adderall detectable in urine?
Typically about 1 to 3 days after the last dose, and sometimes longer with high or regular doses. See our detection times chart.
Other things that can trigger an AMP screen
Instant tests are screening tools, and some other substances can occasionally cause a preliminary positive for amphetamine, including certain decongestants and prescription medications. A laboratory confirmation test can tell these apart from amphetamine. That is why every preliminary positive should be confirmed before any action is taken.
Handling prescriptions
Many people take Adderall legally. A good testing policy asks donors to list current prescriptions, and treats a positive AMP result from a valid prescription differently from misuse. Employers should follow applicable laws on prescription medications and disability accommodation.
Cutoff levels
Our AMP tests use a 1000 ng/mL cutoff on most cups and strips, and 500 ng/mL on the 12 panel CLIA waived cup with PCP. Read more about cutoff levels.

Will Adderall make me fail a drug test?
It will typically screen positive for amphetamine. If you have a valid prescription, disclose it, and a lab can confirm the result.
Does Ritalin show up as amphetamine?
Usually not. Methylphenidate is chemically different and does not typically trigger the AMP panel.
How long does Adderall stay in urine?
About 1 to 3 days after the last dose, sometimes longer with regular use.
Does Adderall show up as meth?
Not usually. Methamphetamine has its own MET panel, and Adderall does not typically trigger it.
